Ruth Vermeer

medium: Multi-media

Ruth Vermeer’s multimedia art expresses her passion for the various processes of how different art forms are made. She spent twenty years working in the camping industry with her M.S. in Parks and Recreation Administration, but her dream had always been to become an art teacher. Her journey brought her full circle: Ruth formerly was Artworks’ Education Director, and she now teaches art for Hope Network and its summer camp.

She is inspired by her family and community, and when she’s not creating art, she enjoys the ongoing design of wildflower gardens, canning, and camping with her husband and their dog Cedar. During her early years at Artworks, John Varineau, conductor of Grand Rapids Symphony told her, “We’re all designed to be creative.” Ruth believes that it’s never too late to learn a new skill.
