Marilyn Spence has been interested in art for as long as she can remember. She recalls working with bubble beads and embroidery when she was seven, and later learning how to sew in home economics. She would go on to sew a wedding dress and clothes for herself and her daughter. 

In her young adulthood she began molding slip ceramics and taught classes on the subject. She received a formal education in engineering, but all the while remained connected with her artistic side. She spent many years practicing beading with semi-precious gemstones before discovering metalsmithing. She received training in metalsmithing from a variety of places and has since put what she’s learned into practice. “My soul loves to create with color, gemstones and metal,” she says.
